Children’s Church Suggested Outline / Structure
During your month of Children’s Church, please allow the Holy Spirit to lead you. This outline is only being provided as a general guide, but feel free to be creative and to teach the children about the LORD any way you feel would be effective. Plan on approximately 45 minutes – 1 hour of time with the children.
Snack time (10 minutes) - Start Children’s Church by inviting the children to sit and have a snack. Offer a prayer together before eating the snack. Encourage the children to pray.
Songs (10 – 15 minutes) – Gather the children together and sing one or two songs with them. Various CD’s are available, or you may bring your own worship music. If possible, provide them with the lyrics and go over the songs several times, until they feel comfortable. You may want to add “hand motions” to the songs as something fun to do.
Scripture / Lesson (10 – 15 minutes) – Gather the children together and go over the selected scripture and/or biblical concept you have selected. You may want to ask one of the older children who can read, to read the verse / verses out loud. Or, there may be a story book that you will read to the children to teach them about Jesus, Noah, etc. Explain the information to the children and ask them questions. For example, “Does anyone know what the rainbow means?” Encourage them to discuss the Lord and His Word. If you aren’t sure about the correct answer, just indicate that it is a great question, and that we can ask pastor following the morning service.
Prayer ( 5 minutes) – Offer a prayer to the LORD, and invite the children to pray with you. Demonstrate how to pray together (quietly, listen to others, head bowed or eyes closed, etc.) The idea is to teach the children the importance of praying with one another.
Craft / Activity ( 10 – 15 minutes) – This is where the kids sit at the table and do whatever craft or activity you have prepared to go along with the lesson. It could be as simple as coloring a page, or constructing a small craft. Help them cut out, glue, etc. and continue to discuss the lesson with them as you work on their craft.
